I've ridden other metros as well but not consistent enough to pass a judgement. I've ridden metros (as a regular commuter - not just once off or on vacation) in NY, Chicago, London, DC, and Paris. I don't think MARTA sucks compared to other cities (as a broad statement). It's a form of tyranny not unlike a monarch and parliament on the other side of an ocean dictating tax hikes to colonists who have no recourse. The state contributes nothing to MARTA, but still gets to determine where they write their checks. It wouldn't hurt to contact your state senator and representative and urge them to support letting MARTA determine how it spends its money. There have been many years in which MARTA has had to reduce or cut service while at the same time ordering new buses. I am not sure if this is at the root of the recent rail issues, but MARTA officials have complained about this budgetary micro-management for years. However, for example, being forced to purchase new buses when that money could be better spent on rail maintenance can make it rather difficult to run a transit system. I am not sure what the mandated budget breakdown is these days, but as recently as 2010 it was still 45/55. In the early 2000s Atlanta-area legislators were successful in getting enough of their colleagues to agree to a slight adjustment of 45% capital/55% operations. The Georgia state legislature mandates that MARTA spend a percentage of its budget on capital expenditures (new assets) and a certain percentage on operations, regardless of where the greatest need lies. I ordered a shared uber and 3 others from the train and I rode to arts center. Luckily I thought to myself, it would take at least an hour to get enough buses over. One time though there was a fire at midtown so it stopped at Civics center got everyone off and they said there would be a bus bridge to arts center. Guess it doesn't matter cause if I took an uber to northsprings I would just be stuck in traffic. My phone doesn't work in the tunnels so I have no clue what is going on, how long it will be. once again Marta red / yellow lines are delayed fasfaf tgqaet dfawadfa etawetse thanks for your understanding. All I hear is "Attention red / yellow lines flhsgf rtfsdfg dfafgear fasde ewera etwet wop arwefc eare delayed fsdfafa. They make an announcement either in the station or if I'm on the train. I park at North Springs and ride to Peachtree Center and back every day. Most of the time things are smooth sailing. I'm happy that MARTA has had growing support in the suburbs and may be expanding - but if this is the "new normal" they need to fix their operational issues before worrying about expansion. I've given up and am just going to take Uber the rest of the week.

What happened? Is this week an aberration, or is this the new normal? I understand that "things happen", but between this morning and my experience the rest of the week, it is clear things have really gone downhill over the past couple of years.

This morning, it looks like they pretty much just stopped running trains southbound at all for a period of time. Despite being on the merged Gold/Red line traveling at peak hours, every day there have been 10-15+ minute gaps between trains (rather than the schedule 6 minutes) - both Northbound and Southbound. I have something this week where it makes sense for me to take MARTA, and it has been a miserable experience. It was not perfect, but the trains generally ran on time(ish) and it got me where I needed to go (and let me avoid terrible Buckhead-Midtown traffic). I used to take MARTA trains every day several years back.
